If Week 7 taught us anything it is this. Chaos is the default setting. Top dogs fall, underdogs roar, and the pollsters have whiplash. Here’s why your rankings make sense based on how the teams have looked all season and in Week 7.

No. 1 Ohio State
Last week: beat Illinois 34-16.
Why they stay at the top: Ohio State is flat-out efficient on both sides of the ball. Offense moves the chains without turning the ball over and the defense clamps in key spots. Week 7 was textbook: won the line of scrimmage, created turnovers, and closed clean. That’s the profile of a team you can trust when the craziness starts.

No. 2 Miami
Last week: beat Florida State 28-22.
Why they belong here: Miami has balance. Carson Beck is slinging when needed and the run game keeps opponents honest. The defense forces turnovers and keeps games in reach. The FSU win was messy and physical, and Miami passed the toughness test.

No. 3 Indiana
Last week: upset Oregon 30-20.
Why they are climbing: Indiana has been steady and clutch all season. Week 7 was their statement. They shut down Oregon’s rhythm, controlled the trenches, and closed in the fourth. When a team keeps showing up in tight spots, you have to reward it.

No. 4 Ole Miss
Last week: edged Washington State 24-21.
Why they’re here: Ole Miss has big-play offense and just enough defense to survive the ugly moments. Trinidad Chambliss is making plays and the Rebels have the speed to flip a game in a hurry. Late scares happen, but they’re still getting wins.

No. 5 Texas A&M
Last week: beat Mississippi State 31-9.
Why this slot fits: A&M is built on physicality and situational defense. They rolled in Week 6 and followed with another controlled performance. When you win the ugly, SEC-style games by stuffing the run and finishing drives, that’s a top-5 résumé builder.

No. 6 Texas Tech
Last week: dominated Houston 35-11.
Why they’re up here: Explosive offense with enough defense to keep opponents from hanging around. Behren Morton and the receivers make vertical plays and the Red Raiders are winning without drama. Schedule still matters, but the offense forces respect.

No. 7 Alabama
Last week: grind-it-out win at Missouri 27-24.
Why they slot here: Alabama keeps finding ways to win tight games. Ty Simpson showed command, conversions on fourth down mattered, and the defense made the stops when they had to. Maybe not immaculate, but Alabama still wins the ugly contests.

No. 8 Oregon
Last week: lost at Indiana 30-20.
Why they stay in the conversation: Oregon’s ceiling is crazy high when the offense clicks. Week 7 exposed protection and turnover issues, and they took a real hit. Still, they have talent and big-play ability, which is why they remain inside the top 10 despite the loss.

No. 9 Georgia
Last week: beat Auburn 20-10.
Why they belong in the back half of the top 10: Georgia’s defense still wins them games. The offense has been boom-or-bust, but the Bulldogs make the clutch plays when rivalries get ugly. That goal-line turnover was the difference and shows this team can close.

No. 10 Georgia Tech
Last week: routed Virginia Tech 35-20 and sit unbeaten at 6-0.
Why they sneak into the top 10: Georgia Tech is actually doing the thing - efficient offense, no turnovers, and a running game that keeps opponents honest. A perfect record matters. Until someone beats them, you have to respect it.
